Planning

Historical Context

Opened in 1994, the first Dilli Haat opposite INA market was conceived to provide a permanent, year-round marketplace that replicates the feel of a traditional Indian village 'haat'. Unlike temporary craft fairs, it offers a consistent platform for artisans who are rotated on a 15-day basis, ensuring a dynamic and ever-changing variety of crafts for visitors. Its success led to the opening of other branches in Pitampura and Janakpuri.

Photography Tips

  • The golden hour, just before sunset, casts a beautiful warm light across the complex, perfect for atmospheric shots
  • Use a prime lens (like a 50mm or 35mm) to capture portraits of artisans (with their permission) and details of their crafts with a nice blurry background
  • Focus on capturing the vibrant colors – the textiles, the pottery, the spices. A polarizing filter can help make colors pop
  • At night, use a fast lens or slightly increase your ISO to capture the ambiance of the string lights and live performances without a flash.

Insider Tips

  • Visit on a weekday evening to enjoy the beautiful lighting with fewer crowds than on weekends
  • Don't just stick to one food stall; order small portions from multiple stalls to create your own pan-Indian food tour
  • Many artisans are the creators themselves; take the time to chat with them about their art form—it makes the purchase more meaningful
  • While cards are accepted at some stalls, many smaller vendors operate on a cash-only basis. Carry sufficient cash, including small denominations.

Cancellation Policy

General entry tickets purchased at the venue are non-refundable. For guided tours booked through our platform, most of our partners offer a free cancellation policy up to 24 hours before the activity starts. Always check the specific policy for the tour you select.

A Cultural Feast!

Dilli Haat was the highlight of my Delhi trip. It's so much more than a market. I bought a beautiful hand-painted canvas and ate the most amazing food from the Nagaland stall. The atmosphere in the evening with the live music was just incredible. A must-do!

Wonderful shopping experience

A much calmer and more pleasant way to shop for souvenirs than the big bazaars. The quality of the crafts is excellent, and you know you're supporting the artisans directly. I wish I had more space in my luggage! The entry fee is nominal for the experience you get.

Authentic and Relaxing

I loved this place. It was clean, safe, and not overwhelming. I had a long chat with a woodcarver from Saharanpur and learned so much. The food court is a brilliant concept, letting you sample dishes from all over the country. A perfect evening out.

Bellissimo! A true taste of India

This place is a treasure. I felt like I traveled through all of India in just a few hours. The colors, the music, the smells... it's a sensory delight. I found a gorgeous silk scarf from Kashmir. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Delhi.

Pleasant and interesting

A very well-organized cultural space. It was enjoyable to walk around and see the different crafts from each state. The fixed-price concept in some shops is helpful. The food was good, and the cultural show was a nice touch. A good way to spend an afternoon.

Magnifique!

Great spot for genuine souvenirs

If you want to buy quality Indian handicrafts without the hassle, this is the place. Prices are fair, and the variety is astounding. It's a great concept. Deducted one star because it got very crowded on the Saturday evening we visited.
